Pool Party Missing Addend Bundle

I am really excited about the new activities I am working to help my kiddos figure out missing addends. I gave them a quiz on place value yesterday and this was definitely a weak area for them. They need lots of practice with modeling to understand why their answers did not make sense. So I am in the process of making some activities to help them at different levels because they are all definitely at the same place in their understanding. Look for this to come later today :)

On another note, yesterday my students started writing their own story problems from their conversation heart data from Valentine's Day, and I have to say, I think they surprised us both. This has always been difficult for my second graders, but once they begin writing their own story problems, they gain a deeper understanding of how to solve story problems presented to them. I will post some of them when they get finished :)

So, is everyone gearing up for end-of-year testing? We sure are, and even though we don't take the state-mandated CRCT test here in GA in second grade, we do take our district-mandated Testgate test which is cummulative and crucial to show what our students learned this year. It is just as hard as the CRCT (when we used to take it), so we have been doing some very intentional and focused reviewing. This was NOT the time for my Promethean Board projector to die, but it did, so I will probably be heading to the media center this coming week to use the one there. I have one of the first generation boards, so I don't have dual pen capability or ActivExpressions. Not complaining, but being one of our Promethean Coaches for our county and helping the new users get set up on their new boards, I sure am JEALOUS of their new technology. If you have ActivExpressions in your classroom, and use the text feature, instead of just multiple choice, I would love to hear how you use them with your students.

Well, I'm off to finish some activities. Later, more.............. :)

I finished my Pool Party Missing Number Equation Activity :)

Pool Party Beach Equations - Find the Missing Number

Can you find the missing number? Do you add? subtract? How do I figure it out?

This activity includes 3 different levels to help your students learn how to figure out the missing number in an addition or subtraction number sentence.
Level 1 - 1 Digit Numbers
Level 2 - 2 Digit Numbers
Level 3 - 3 Digit Numbers

Included are:
3 Sets of Leveled Number Sentences (16 cards each)
3 Sets of Matching Answer Cards (16 cards each)
3 Recording Sheets (different one for each level and labeled)
3 Answer Sheets (one for each level and labeled)
Find the Missing Number Strategy Poster
Essential Questions Poster
Common Core Standards Poster

If you students are like mine, they always need practice on these types of number sentences. With the different levels of difficulty, students can move up as they master each level. This activity can also be used to assess the standards included.

Thank you for stopping by. If you purchase this activity pack for your students, please be sure to let me know what you think by leaving feedback. I always love to hear how other students were able to benefit from activities I made to help my students. Be sure to check out my other activities while you are here, too. You might just find something else you feel would be beneficial for your students.

Check it out :)

More Camping-Themed Test Prep, Oh Yeah!!!

I have made several other camp-themed activities to help my kiddos review and prepare for their upcoming end-of-the-year testing. As I stated in a previous post, our school has a camp theme throughout our school, so we are doing a K.A.M.P. out week prior to their big testing to help motivate them and get them ready.

K.A.M.P. stands for Knowledge x Application x Motivation = Performance

The second in the series is my Camping Capers Word Wall and Sorts activities. This file has 45 word wall words that were used in the Camping Capers Division Story Problems to help the students become familiar with the vocabulary so they can focus on solving the division problems. In addition the the word wall words, I have included a Phonics Sort by Vowel Pattern. The students will sort the words on the sorting mats by vowel pattern (vowel digraph, r-controlled, long vowel silent e, and short vowel) and then write the words they sorted in the correct category on their recording sheet. The second activity is a Syllable Sort. The students will sort the word wall words by the number of syllables they have using the sorting mats and write the words in the correct category on their recording sheet.

Click HERE to go to my TPT Store to check it out :)

The next activity I created is so cute. A little dog named Camper needs help in sorting words to make compound words. There are two sets included,  along with a sorting mat for each and a recording sheet for them to record the compound words they made. Possible answers are also included. Students can work on these individually, with a partner, or with a small group. Look for more Camper activities coming soon :)

Camping - Themed Test Prep, Oh YEAH!!!

At our school, we have a camping theme throughout our school which is so fun! To prepare my 2nd graders for their end-of-the-year testing, I decided to design activities I knew they needed review on, incorporating the camping theme throughout. We only have a few weeks until testing, so we are going to do camp stations with different content areas that the students will rotate through. I'm super excited to post my first activity "Camping Capers" a division unit that contains Camping Story Problems, division sorting mats, printable counters, flash card division sentences and answers that match the division problems, a student recording sheet, and an answer sheet. My kids LOVED the "Doggie Division" activities so much that they ALL could divide correctly using their sorting mats and counters. That was the inspiration for my newest "Camping Capers" activity file. I even ran them each off a set of sorting mats and counters to keep in their homework folder to use whenever they needed to. I am so proud of my kiddos  :)

Here is my "Camping Capers" Division Story Problem Unit, available at my TPT Store.

More to come, so keep checking back or follow me so you will get notification when I post something new :)

ActivInspire Promethean Charts

Below you will find several Promethean Charts I have created and use in my second grade classroom. Hope you will also find them useful :)

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to give students practice in identifying various amounts of money using different coin combinations. This ice-cream themed flpchart has the students identify coint amounts of $0.05,. $0.10, $0.25, and $0.50. Students will click the coin collection they believe to be correct and drag it into the container in the middle of the screen. If the amount is correct, the coins will stay in the container. If the coin collection is incorrect, the coins will pop back out to its original spot on the flipchart. My students love the challenge of this flipchart. It starts out easy and gets more challenging with each new page. Samples are included in the preview. There are 15 pages with lots of coin combination practice on each page. This is great test prep practice flipchart for talking about process of elimation, counting up, benchmark numbers, and different coin images.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to give students practice in estimating different objects in feet and inches. The flipchart has 11 pages and was designed to use with ActivInspire Activotes. There are 10 questions included with a picture for students to determine the best estimate for it's measurement, either in feet or inches. My students love this activity and learn very quickly the difference between feet and inches.

My students had so much fun with this flipchart, I created a second chart with more practice called "More Fun with Measurement - Estimation." Be sure to check it out, also.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to give students more practice in estimating different objects in feet and inches. The flipchart has 11 pages and was designed to use with ActivInspire Activotes. There are 10 questions included with a picture for students to determine the best estimate for it's measurement, either in feet or inches. My students loved the first flipchart so much, they begged me to make another one. This activity really helped my students learn very quickly the difference between feet and inches.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to provide test prep practice in second grade math skills. Each question has the Georgia GPS standard listed next to it. Skills in this flipchart include: addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, place value, geometry (plane and solid shapes), multiplication, division, tally tables, different ways to name the same number, measurement, temperature, fractions, estimation, counting money, giving change from $10, benchmark numbers (rounding), venn diagrams, angles, clocks, word problems, comparing lengths of time, arrays, ten frames, multiplication charts, missing numbers, comparing numbers, inverse operation, fact families, and counting large numbers. There are 47 pages in this flipchart that include Activotes for you to assess your students' mastery of the second grade standards in this flipchart. This flipchart can also be used as test prep for upcoming state or district end-of-year testing. This flipcharts provides many opportunities for the teacher to teach test taking strategies as well. I hope you are able to use this flipchart to assess or practice second grade standards with your students.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to provide extra practice in second grade multiplication and division. Each question has the Georgia GPS standard listed next to it. Skills for multiplication practice include: repeated addition, equal groups, arrays, fact families, vocabulary, reading a multiplication chart, and word problems. Skills for division practice include: repeated subtraction, equal groups, left over, and word problems. There are 16 pages in this flipchart that include Activotes for you to assess your students' mastery of multiplication and division. This flipchart can also be used as test prep for upcoming state or district end-of-year testing. This flipcharts provides many opportunities for the teacher to teach test taking strategies as well. I hope you are able to use this flipchart to assess or practice multiplication and division standards with your students.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to provide extra practice in identifying coins (front, back, commerative, uncommon) while practicing identifying the fraction of a set. The first couple pages have a coin flipper that will randomize the set for the students to practice naming the fraction of pennies (heads & tails). The additional pages have some coins on heads and some coins on tails (the same coin) and the students will use their activote to identify the fraction of the coins that are on heads or tails. There are 15 pages in this flipchart but remember the first several pages can be played over and over until your students are ready to be quizzed using the Activotes. My students LOVE this flipchart. Hope your students have as much fun as mine always do.

This ActivInspire flipchart provides the teacher with a quick review or quiz on key vocabulary words from Henry and Mudge: The First Book by Cynthia Rylant. The flipchart is 6 pages and is set up to use with ActivInspire Activotes. Second graders love Henry and Mudge, and they love using the Activotes, so this is a win/win situation for your students.

This ActivInspire flipchart provides the teacher with a quick review or quiz on key vocabulary words from Horrible Harry in Room 2B by Suzy Kline. The flipchart has 6 pages and is set up to use with ActivInspire Activotes. Second graders love Horrible Harry, and they love using the Activotes, so this is a win/win situation for your students.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to assess what my students had learned about Veterans and vocabulary words related to Veteran's Day. The vocabulary words in this flipchart were discussed in class and put up on a word wall leading up to Veteran's Day. After daily review and using the words in activities, the students were ready for this assessment. This flipchart has 20 pages and was designed to use with ActivInspire Activotes. Hope your students have as much fun learning about Veterans as mine did.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to teach my students about Australia during December when we celebrate Christmas Around the World. The flipchart has 38 pages and was designed to use with ActivInspire Activotes. The first 18 pages show images of Australia with a matching title. I use these pages to teach my students about Australia, prior to our celebration and sharing day with the parents. Following the teaching pages of this flipchart are 17 Activote questions with picture clues that match the prior learning. When the parents come for the Christmas Around the World celebration, they work with their child to answer the Australia questions using their Activotes. The parents and students LOVE this! Not only do they get to learn about Australia, but they also get to have fun testing their knowledge. It is so awesome when the the kids know the answers and the parents don't, lol. Hope your students have as much fun as mine always do.

Even though this flipchart was built to use in December for Christmas Around the World, you could easily edit the title and use this flipchart year round when studying about Australia. If you purchase this file and would like me to do that for you, I would be glad to.

This ActivInspire flipchart was created to assess what my students had learned about our state, Georgia. While studying informational text, we gathered information from books, the internet, fact cards, and technology resources to learn about Georgia. My students completed an informational report as we learned new things every day. I would quiz them in line and while waiting on their bus. They loved it! By the time we actually took this quiz on the Promethean Board using the Activotes, they were experts and were so proud of what they had learned about their state. If you teach in Georgia, your kids will love this flipchart. If you don't teach in Georgia, you could easily make a few modifications to this flipchart to customize it to your state. I can help you with that if you are interested. This flipchart has 17 pages and was designed to use with ActivInspire Activotes. Hope your students have as much fun as mine did.

YAY!!! I finally got those posted! I hope that these ActivInspire Flipcharts will be of use to your students in the different content areas. My second graders LOVE when we use the Promethean Board and especially when we use the Activotes :) If you have any questions on any of my flipcharts, please feel free to ask me. I will be making some more soon so be sure to check back or follow me so you will get notification when I post something new.

Dog Gone Fun Fractions

I hope everyone is having a great Spring Break. I have been trying to catch on some things and one of those major priorities is getting my blog updated. I am still not 100% with posting and understanding how to post which really bothers me since I am a serious technology person. A long time ago, I had a website that was entirely HTML and I was constantly learning and loved every minute of it. After a few years, they shut down and I went with a different website host that used a combination of HTML and WYSIWYG. I got spoiled and busy and now I am feeling less proficient in a big way :( but in my own teacher voice I keep telling myself to remember if you don't use it you lose it, but will get it back soon :) So, I am taking some time to update my blog with all my files that I created over the past month or so. When I create something, it is usually something I needed right away in my own classroom and put it to use the next day. My students always LOVE the games and activities that I make and have learned so much through these activities.

I'll start with my Dog Gone Fun Fractions Ten Frame Activity. In our school, we use BBY, what we call "dot math" to help the students have a better understanding of number sense. My students were working on a new BBY worksheet on identifying the "dots" in a tens frame as a fraction, and the "empties" in the same tens frame as a fraction. So basically, they were to identify the same picture as two different fractions. They were truly overwhelmed, and so was I at the end of that day because they just weren't getting it. I went home and created the following fraction activity using ten frames but slowing it down a bit to help them understand. It worked!!! Not only did they understand the ten frame fractions, but they were ALL able to correctly identify the twenty frame fractions also!!!!! I was truly a proud mama!!!!!

My Dog Gone Fun Fractions Ten Frame Activity file includes:
Game Labels
Ten Frames 1-10
Twenty Frames 1-20
Fraction Cards 1-20
Ten Frame Worksheets
Twenty Frame Worksheets
Sample Worksheets
Directions
